What Can Brown Do For You?

Hello Friends! It’s been a stupid busy week! I’m trying my hardest to stay ahead of my work so that during Fall Break and the later breaks of the semester, I can take it a bit easier. I’m usually a procrastinator so I’m going a little crazy trying to get all this done. It’ll be worth it though.

So here is a recap of my week:

On Monday Bree and I went to the grand opening of a Chipotle nearby. Bree is friends with the owners and they were kind enough to pay for our meal and give us twelve cards for free burritos. Not only was it a delicious taste of home but we’re set on free meals for a week! That was definitely an unexpected blessing and a great way to start this week. After lunch, I did more work (of course) but got really tired of reading and proceeded to work out in my flat. As if all the walking we do around here isn’t enough exercise, now I’m working out five days a week. But it really did help me stay awake through the rest of my reading and got me till eight o’ clock when Grey’s Anatomy started! I’ve been wanting to get into Grey’s for a while but haven’t had the time. Unfortunately and fortunately, the channels that air my TV shows like Glee, House, and Pretty Little Liars don’t come on general cable here, so now I’ll have a chance to get into something new. And since it’s only one show, I’ll still have more free time than I did last semester.

Tuesday was an interesting story. It was another dreadfully dreary, rainy day so I set off to CAPA with my rain jacket and cute pink umbrella. I suppose any umbrella purchased in Texas isn’t up to par with the quality of umbrellas in the UK. Apparently the rain combined with wind completely did in my adorable pink and green umbrella so I’ll have to be on the lookout for something with a little better quality…Maybe I’ll get myself a bubble umbrella. Those would actually be quite useful here. After arriving at CAPA drenched from rain, I sat through my two classes and made my way to the first theater performance for my class: War Horse. It was absolutely amazing, completely unique and breathtaking and an utter surprise. It’s really difficult for me to describe the show so you’ll just have to take me at my word that it was wonderful. If it comes through your city, I highly recommend going to see it and I can say that for anyone, no matter your taste or opinion on theater, you’ll love it.

Yesterday was another boring work day but with the added bonus of MAIL! Bree’s mom sent her a giant care package that must have been a fortune to send- it was filled to the brim with American food!! There were six boxes of cereal, two boxes of Oreos, Texas honey, and coffee complete with a coffee pot. We’re set on breakfast food for a while which is another blessing to be grateful for. But when she picked up her box, I was told I had one two! That’s right, my adorable boy sent me a box! (Thank you, Honey!!) I really like getting mail (hint, hint).  Last night a few of us got together and discussed plans for fall break. Since we don’t get a Thanksgiving break, they’re giving us a week long fall break to do with as we will. There’s a group of five of us that it looks like will be headed to Iceland for three days! We found an advertisement for a trip to see the Northern Lights and it’s much too good a deal to pass up. We haven’t booked yet but it sounds like we’ll get that done this weekend and be on our way in October! I’m really excited to have something like that to look forward to and it’s definitely a unique place to visit while we’re in this part of the world. I’ll be keeping you updated with those happenings as they occur.

Today was pretty boring-another class and work filled day but this weekend will be a bit more eventful. Tomorrow we’ll be heading out for a “museum outing” which will hopefully be filled with multiple museums that I have yet to see. Saturday we have a trip to Brighton planned with our British Life and Culture professor, the Quintessential British Man, Mike Fosdal. I’m actually REALLY excited to see Brighton and the beach. From what I hear, it’s the big vacation spot for Londoners and there are a lot of different things to do there. And finally, Sunday is the Thames Festival which should be a TON of fun. They’ve got a bunch of different bands and entertainers and booths coming and it should be great. Although I do wish I could be in the States for Sunday (9/11) to commemorate all the service men and women who did their part ten years ago and those that are still fighting today, I hear that there will be a minute of silence across the country to honor the ten year anniversary of September 11th.  And I think it’s neat that it the ten year anniversary falls on a Sunday. I’m sure churches will be holding special events to honor it as well.

There’s a lot to look forward to coming up and time is going pretty fast around here. It’s already been three weeks with twelve more to go. Better soak up the tea and crumpets while I can!
