A Little Town Called London...Maybe You've Heard of it...It's in England

Let’s be honest, here. I never saw myself as a study abroad kind of person. As much as I love to travel, an entire semester just seemed too long to be away from home. So how did I get into this? Well, you see, there’s always that one professor that seems to turn your perspectives upside down and sideways when you least expect it. Katie Feyh made my Intro to Communication Studies class present five minute persuasive speeches on any topic of our liking as long as it was something we were passionate about. Not quite sure what I was passionate enough to persuade, I chose to speak on something I knew well: traveling. But in order to make it relevant and persuasive, I decided to make my main point studying/traveling abroad. This took some research. I spent an hour or two in Southwestern’s Office of Intercultural Learning (or Study Abroad office (because I’m not a snooty academic)) and came out with an armful of brochures and pamphlets, ready to study in Ireland. I was so ready, in fact, that I called home and suggested that we take a family trip there. When my father immediately turned that down, I sprawled on my bed and flipped through the brochures, making notes for my speech but now with peaked interest. Bright blue and hard to miss, the Southwestern London Program pamphlet was short and to the point. And perfect for me. Offering classes in my major at the same tuition as a regular semester at school, the London program fit like a glove. Needless to say, my speech went swimmingly once I had my inspiration. One application and a waiting period later, I was accepted to the program.
So, in an effort to share my experiences with you all, I decided to create this blog. Hopefully, it will serve as a way to stay connected and informed while also preserving the memories of this trip. As it is, I’d like to be able to post twice a week while I’m there but as I have yet to receive my schedule and I have no idea what the work load of these classes will be, I’ll settle with one post a week FOR SURE. In the mean time, enjoy your summers!
